Not to mention a lot of jobs are involved in a project like that so it’s not like people are being kept from work because of this, and who knows how many jobs may be created in the future because of things learned from stuff like this, and so forth.

Let’s see:

Giving numbers without checking those numbers? Check.

Not looking at the bigger picture of just how many jobs the production and launch of Curiosity provided, from gathering the resources to building the components to assembly to actual launch? Check.

Not looking at the WAY bigger picture of how better rovers on Mars could help us find things, like previously undiscovered resources (scarce on Earth) or even land (growing scarcer every day on Earth) that we could maybe one day colonise? Check.

Passive-aggressive asshattery? Check.

……….. Can you at least make it atypical? Multiple times in the past week while scrolling through my mundane Facebook news feed, I came upon a relatively long status, which kind of catches your attention. So naturally, I read it.

And all of them sounded the same.

It starts with the person going to work (because it’s nice to show how you’ve been active while school isn’t in session), and they run into some mishap during their commute. It goes on with them encountering shockingly rude people, falling into despair, and then nearly solving their problem only to come upon another one. Of course, it ends with them realizing how kind immigrants are and something about New York.

Sadly, it’s enlightening stories like these that get people into college.

315 Park Avenue South is exactly halfway between my apartment and the Tor offices. For nearly two decades I’ve watched an anonymous group of painters create 150 foot movie poster murals on the side of the building.

I’ve always wondered how they construct the image and what it might look like from up close while it’s being put together. It’s one of the only places where advertising is still painted — it’s an original work and it changes up about once every six weeks. I even joked that one day I would sit outside the building all day and wait for the crew to come out.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to resort to stalking. As luck would have it, I ran into Dan Cohen, one of the principle painters at Art FX Murals, at the Illustration Master Class, who was able to fill me in on the process of how one paints a huge Batman (or a huge anything) on the side of a building.

For the most part, we don’t really see how Bolin misses or thinks of his parents. I like to think that while Mako was closest to their dad, Bolin was closest to their mom. And although Bolin’s memories of his parents have faded over time, he can still remember her long hair, her smile, and how she always smelled of this certain special flower.
